OPEN HANDS CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP - God's love and anointing flows from heaven through Open Hands
Merry Christmas & A  Happy New Year. Dec. 2017
With Christmas just a few days away, it's time to reflect on how good God has been to us. If you are alive, God has been good. If you have health God is good. If you have health issues, God is still good. If you have a home God is good. If you don't but you still are alive, God is good. If you have a job, God is good. If you need a job, God is still good. Long story short, no matter what you are going through, God is still good and you have made it through another year by the grace of God.
Christmas is a time of joy because of Jesus coming to this world to save mankind. Despite the commercialism of Christmas, Jesus is still the reason for the season. Therefore as you ponder your current situation be mindful there is possibly someone worse off than you. Be grateful and thankful for how God has kept you. From Open Hands to you, have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year. Visit Open Hands and share with us the wonderful presence of God. Be blessed......Pastor Leavell

We are truly blessed to have with us Minister Jerry Colbert who is an Associate Minister and a gifted teacher as well as a great bass guitar player. Open Hands is truly blessed and he will make a great impact on our future outreach and ministry to the city of Suffolk.
Pastor Leavell will continue throughout the month of August on Sunday's and Tuesday Night Bible Study with a series of messages on "Back To School". The series is based from the scripture ; My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" ( Hosea 4:6 ). Come and join in the service and see how the bible teaches us to seek knowledge for the betterment of our lives and the generations that follow. History teaches us the value of learning. Jesus told his followers to " Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me..." ( Matt. 11:29 ) Come and join in the experience as God moves through His Word to build us up for success through giving us knowledge.
As this Memorial Day approaches it will be a time of family gatherings. Cookouts, graduations, school release for the summer as well as the beginning of vacation season  all seems to initiate the beginning of the summer season. Let us not forget the reason of Memorial Day. It is a season toreflect on those who sacrificed their lives protecting our country. It is about the wounded and scarred trying to rebuild their lives. It is about families trying to start over again with the horrors of war in the memories of a soldier trying to move forward. It is just not about the fallen but the ones who survived but are not living because of the trauma. While we pay tribute to the fallen let us give recognition and help tothe ones who have served and are struggling to survive and rejoin society. Many return from the battlefield and are jobless. Many are homeless. Most need medical care but the Veterans Hospitals are understaffed and over crowded with patients. While we remember the millions who lost their lives serving our country let us pray for the ones who survived and need help to continue to move forward. As a fellow veteran to veterans families all over the world, Happy Memorial Day from Open Hands.
As we near another Christmas and New Year to follow, it is time to give thanks for the blessings of God for keeping us. I pray for a wonderful Christmas to all and a prosperous New Year. May we always be mindful of the many who may find it difficult to celebrate this holiday season. Our men and women in the Armed Forces are separated from their families often times leaving hearts of many heavy. There are many behind prison walls missed by family members and missing family celebrations. There are also the ones who face tragedy whether it is a house fire and losing everything, the untimely death of a love one or the unexpected mass killing like in Newtowne which the nation mourned. We are all God's children and we rejoice together and cry together. As 2013 arrives I pray for God to send a revival for the nation. I pray for the nation and its leaders to come together and work together for the good of all America. Last but not least I pray that all who are lost can hear and receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ and be saved before it is too late. From Open Hands, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

                        TRUSTING GOD
Proverbs 3:5,6 commands us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not to our own understanding. In all our ways acknowlege him and he will direct our path. God is asking us to trust HIM. Not just trust IN him. The upcoming weeks will find Open Hands seeking a greater understanding of "Trusting God".
The story of Moses in Exodus Ch.3 &4 is our first text on trusting God. The first truth we get from the burning bush experience is; the time for your anointing and your elevation is coming sooner than you will have time to prepare for. Imagine being in today's job market. Good jobs as well as not so good jobs are hard to find. The time you've put in getting degrees and technical skills seems to be going to waste so you get a job at the department store or cutting grass. You have just imitated Moses: you are tending sheep. You could be Gordon Gekko on Wall Street and still be tending sheep. Until you have your burning bush experience and receive your life's assignment from God, all you're really doing is tending sheep. Hearing God's assignment does not mean you instantly hit the jackpot. Nor does it mean you have arrived and you are now " all that ." What it does mean is you have surrendered your will to the will of God and you are ready to say yes. Yes to God's plan is the true meaning of trust. God does not tell you everything about His plan and what He does tell you is so small because He sees the end from the beginning: we can only see one day at a time. Moses was given the assignment of freeing the nation of Israel. All he had to do was convince Pharoah to  " let my people go " and then conquer him when he resisted. How has your life worked out so far? Have you been able to get off to a blazing start and keep the torrid pace to the top of whatever ladder you're trying to reach? Maybe you've been like Moses; a series of successes followed by a series of setbacks. The trust placed in God when successful has to be greater when going through setbacks. It is during the setbacks we often divert to "our plans". This is fruitless for the setbacks experienced almost always exhaust all we have. Given that, what do you have to put in a plan to cause it to succeed? God's plan is supported by "His Word." His plan is spoken and received by our ears as "His Word". He and" His Word" are One therefore "His Plan" is saturated with "His Word." In Him we live, we breathe and we have our being. In Him lies everything we need to succeed. So why give up on "His Plan" and try yours when you have nothing and He has everything? That's why we must trust in God in all we do. It won't always be easy but the reward will be watching God do signs and wonders as He reveals His Power and Glory while leading you through the Red Sea into the Promise Land.
I pray this brief message has blessed you and to hear more on Trusting God, join us Sunday at 10am. The Open Hands Family looks forward to meeting you.
